Penylan Festival 2007

Our week-long Festival of Bowls came to a successful and exciting climax on Sunday 15 July with the finals of the Singles and Pairs competitions played in seriously inclement weather on a green which, after a short delay during the morning semi-finals on safety grounds, held up well despite the heavy rain it received until lunchtime.

Winner of the Singles title was Mark Thomas of Ystradfechan B.C.  This was the first time the title had gone to a player from the Rhondda Valley since 1961.

Mark beat last year’s winner Jonathan Forey (Penylan) in weather conditions which were the exact opposite of last year’s very hot sunshine.

Winners of the Pairs title were our very own David Harding and Jonathan Forey, who beat Dave Fredericks and Rees Fielding (from Pontyclun B.C.) in an equally exciting spectacle before the enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd of spectators.
